LASEK in Seoul: more cornea kept, no flap
LASEK treats the surface of the cornea instead of cutting a flap. It preserves more corneal tissue, which makes it a strong choice for thinner corneas or for people whose work or sport carries a risk of eye impact.
How LASEK works
The thin outer layer of the cornea, the epithelium, is gently loosened and moved aside. The excimer laser then reshapes the corneal surface, and a protective bandage contact lens is placed while the epithelium regrows.
Because no flap is created and less tissue is involved, more corneal thickness is preserved. The trade-off is a slower and less comfortable first few days compared with LASIK or SMILE.
Long-term visual results of LASEK are comparable to other laser procedures for suitable patients.

- Military, police, martial arts or contact sports
- Low to moderate myopia
- Patients who prefer no flap or incision
- Previous corneal surface concerns cleared by the surgeon
May point to another option
- Need for very fast recovery: consider SMILE or LASIK
- Very high prescriptions: consider ICL
- Keratoconus
- Poor healing conditions or autoimmune disease
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
Surgery day
- Plan review Surgeon confirms treatment settings.
- Numbing drops Eye drops only.
- Surface prep The epithelium is moved aside.
- Laser The excimer laser reshapes the surface.
- Bandage lens A protective contact lens is placed for healing.
Recovery after LASEK
| When | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Days 1–3 | Discomfort, watering and light sensitivity are common. Prescribed drops help. |
| Days 4–5 | Bandage lens removed at the clinic once the surface has healed. |
| Week 1 | Functional vision for most daily tasks. |
| Month 1 | Vision continues to sharpen. |
| Months 3–6 | Final, stable result. Wear sunglasses outdoors to protect healing. |

Learn about PRK →Common questions
Is LASEK more painful than LASIK?
The first few days are usually more uncomfortable, because the surface layer is healing. Pain relief and drops are provided.
What is the difference between LASEK and PRK?
Both are surface treatments. In LASEK the epithelium is loosened and moved; in PRK it is removed. Recovery and results are similar.
How long should I stay in Seoul for LASEK?
Plan for at least one week so the bandage lens can be removed and your healing checked.
Is LASEK safe for thin corneas?
It preserves more tissue than LASIK, which is why it is often recommended for thinner corneas. Your measurements confirm suitability.
